A
Parents Love
I grew up in church, and as a
child I sang the song Jesus loves me, and then as I got older I learn about how
God loved us so much that he sent his only son to die for us, (John 3:16) and that no matter what we
do He would never leave us or for sake us. (Deuteronomy 31:6) Even though I was taught this my whole
life I couldn't really wrap my head around that kind of unconditional love.
One night I was putting my two
year old daughter Miley to bed, I was just about to shut off the light and it
hit me how much I truly loved this little girl. There was nothing she could do
to make me love her any less. At that moment I heard God say to me see how you
love your daughter? You are my daughter and I love you even more than that. Just like you love her no matter what she
does, there is nothing you can do to make me love you any less. That is the first time I understood what
unconditional love really was.
As a parent there is nothing we wouldn't do to keep our kids safe. We would even die for them. That is what God
did for us when he sent Jesus to die on the cross. Also as a parent we would
love to give our kids everything that they want, but just because they want something
does not always mean it is good for them. As a mom I have to look at the bigger
picture, sometimes even though Miley might really want something I know it may
not be good for her. There are also times when I know the timing is not right
and if she will just be patient, she can have something even better. That is
how God is with us. He can see the bigger picture. He knows the beginning and
the end. If we can learn to trust him he will give us a life better than we can
ever imagine.
Jeremiah 29:11-For I know the
plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm
you, plans to give you hope and a future.
